Volunteer Opportunities:
A volunteer organization is nothing without it's volunteers. Below is a list of some of the volunteer opportunities available and a brief description of each. If you are interested in volunteering your time and energy please fill out the Volunteer Form from the menu under Volunteer Opportunities or click here. For more information about becoming a volunteer or other volunteer related inquiries, please contact our Volunteer Committee at [email protected].
Water Sampling/Monitoring
Our primary focus at inception was to monitor the water quality of Shade Creek and it's tributaries. We take monthly PH readings on several tributaries of Dark Shade Creek and quarterly we collect water samples from those tributaries and have them analyzed by DEP.

Limestone Dosing
As part of the treatment process, SCWA doses some of the tributaries with crushed limestone to increase the PH, making it possible for the steam to sustain life again. In order to accomplish this we need a way to get the limestone to the treatment sites and we need volunteers. For more information on limestone dosing check out our Projects page.

Limestone Dosing - Laborer
Don't have an ATV? Well we need your help too! We need volunteers to load the limestone into buckets and place them on the ATVs. We also need volunteers to take the buckets off the ATVs and empty them into the streams at the treatment sites. There are other volunteer opportunities as well. We value your efforts too and like the ATV drivers we provide you with snacks and beverages as well.
Fundraising Volunteers
Fundraising is an important part of any volunteer organization. Throughout the year we hold various fund-raising activities and volunteers are always appreciated. Whether it's serving Brats at the Central City Heritage Days, selling fundraiser tickets, or any other fundraising activity, there's an opportunity for you.
Community Outreach Volunteer
Are you an outgoing, energetic person who likes to interact with people in the community? SCWA is involved with several outreach programs in the community, especially with the local schools. For instance, we work in conjunction with the local school on a project called "Trout in the Classroom". If you have knowledge/skills related to the watershed that you would like to share with others in the community we would be delighted to hear from you.
